What the CSSHL is
The Canadian Sport School Hockey League — the CSSHL — is an academy-based league for elite youth players. Instead of community teams, players attend hockey-focused sport schools and play a full, structured season against other academy programs. It's one of the most recognized development pathways in Canadian youth hockey.
The league is organized into age-group divisions — commonly U15 Prep, U17 Prep, and U18 Prep, along with a Female Prep stream — split across Western and Eastern conferences. For the current list of divisions, member academies, and conferences, the league's own site is the source of truth: csshl.ca.
Prep vs. Elite vs. the academies
Parents new to the CSSHL often get tripped up by the labels. “Prep” programs are the full-time academy teams that form the backbone of the league. Member academies each run their own programs, schooling, and ice schedules, which is why two players in the same division can have very different day-to-day experiences. How the season and championships work
